BIODYNAMIC MASSAGE
WHAT IS IT?
- Biodynamic massage was originally developed by Gerda Boyesen and developed further at Chiron. It remains a unique treatment in the field of body work and body psychotherapy. It can be an exceptionally subtle form of holistic massage. The theory of Biodynamic massage uses the idea of the body as an embodiment of psychological states.
- It's main aim is in helping your body restore it's own equilibrium and it can be used to treat stress, psychosomatic symptoms or as an additional treatment to psychotherapy.
- If it is used alongside body psychotherapy, it is always carried out within the context of the therapeutic relationship.
In the sessions that I provide, various massage techniques and therapeutic intentions are used, depending on your needs. Work can include an intention to re-balance the nervous system, increase relaxation, release toxins, reduce emotional pressure, reduce pain, reduce muscular tension, increase energy and increase body awareness.
Sessions can also be effective as an exploratory treatment where the feeling is simply that something is missing or 'not quite right'
WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?
This type of work is tailored to an individual's needs and so is suitable for a wide range of clients.
WHAT DOES A SESSION LOOK LIKE?
- When you initially arrive we will look at your history including what brings you here now. Subsequent sessions start with us sitting for a brief chat preceding the massage (just touching base with how you have been/are).
- When we have finished you will receive an individually tailored biodynamic massage which is usually carried out on a treatment table. This could include basic touch at either skin, connective tissue or muscular level. Intention of touch could range between vitalising, matter of fact, relaxing and sedating.
- From the outside it can look as if little is happening (very different from the active forms of massage commonly on offer) but 'less is more' becomes the guiding principle in this work. There can be an enormous amount going on underneath the surface, often (but not always) in silence.
At the start of the massage I will simply make contact with you through gentle still touch. After a short while we will seamlessly move into the body of work for that session.
You should wear loose and comfortable clothing, as sometimes the massage is carried out whilst you are fully clothed.
